about

After a year of touring, in every broken down bar, swanky brewery, and small venue that would book her, songwriter, Ellen "Ella" Patrick was given an opportunity to record a handful of songs in the County she grew up in, Moore County, N.C. "Anthems from a Broken Heart", chronicles a wounded lover's journey falling "out of love." The songs are a collection fit for those broken by past relationships, aiming to bring a sense of power, self-worth,and clarity from the knowledge that loneliness, heartbreak, and hope all walk hand in hand. Produced and recorded with live tracking at Casino Guitars in Southern Pines, NC by musician, James Villone; this album takes the term "Labor of Love" into a completely other realm. This Album was the effort of selfless group of the artist's friends in support for a struggling, and haggard, by way of heartbreak, D.I.Y. musician. Momma Molasses is proud and filled with gratitude to present this new collection of recordings, and hopes they uplift even the weariest of broken hearts!

Currently based in Johnson City, TN, and originally from Carthage, NC, Momma Molasses is the musical project of singer-songwriter Ellen "Ella" Patrick. Growing up with a deep love of music, Patrick began playing stringed instruments at an early age while singing gospel music in church, and learning folk ballads from her parents dusty late 60’s record collection. While in college at Warren Wilson, just outside of Asheville, Patrick studied old-time, and bluegrass music, and later played fiddle for a band in the Asheville area. Two years ago, Patrick decided cook up some songs of her own, with a recipe consisting of equal parts Southern Appalachia, 1940's Classic Country, and 1960s folk revival. With her sweetly stirring contralto voice, and homespun fingerpicked guitar, Momma Molasses has been likened by listeners to artists such as Patsy Cline, "Mother" Maybelle Carter, and early (pre-rock n’ roll) Janis Joplin.
